Ailtireacht have added a contemporary extension to the rear of the building which appears as a collection of folded planes and beams. A series of concrete canopies and piers interspersed with glazing define the zones of the extension, rationalising the generous additional space. The intervention establishes a central axis - a recurring motif within Ailtireacht’s practice. This axis defines the entrance and allows the subsequent spaces to unfold clearly as you enter. It offers a bright focal view to the back of the garden, finally opening onto the new south facing terrace.
